Hullam Hostel

The rooms are basic but clean and perfectly fine, and the owner and staff are very friendly. They cooked a delicious, inexpensive dinner for the guests. Best lemonade I've ever had, too. I only stayed one night, but they let me leave my car in the back garden for 3 days while I went on a bike tour.

A well-located hostel with good rooms, friendly staff, and a cheap bar. Try the local wine, and the bike rental is great value. The main downside is that there are no lockers in the rooms for valuables.

The staff were friendly, but the night was awful. Guests kept banging doors, and the beds were the worst I've slept in at any hostel. Whatever reality you're from, you can't call that a mattress, it was about as thick as a Mars bar. The hostel's quiet period is supposedly 23:00 to 9:00, but that didn't apply to the bar downstairs. A blues concert went on until 2am and was loud in every hostel room. The toilets and showers were disgusting, and there was no hot water either in the evening or in the morning. Be ready for a cold shower.

The lake is close by, with good restaurants and wineries in the area. This is a 100 yrs old hotel building, modernized a bit, and it has everything you'd expect from a hostel in a historical place. Really recommend it for the super hospitality!
