The rooms are clean and tidy, but they feel like a trip back to the eighties! 😉
For me, this is five stars, with good prices and easily the best value in the area. The staff are kind and helpful, the room was clean and tidy, and there's a large garden with barbecue facilities. It's also close to the beach and shops.
The only good part was the woman at reception. She was helpful, nice, and friendly, and of course none of this was her fault. This was my fifth trip to Hungary, and I've stayed in typical Hungarian houses that were always fine, but this one was completely unacceptable. There isn't a negative rating option, so I'm giving it - 5 stars! This isn't a house in "retro style". It seems nothing has been updated or renovated in the last 50 years. It's dark and musty, with peeling paint everywhere, even on the windows.
We were eight friends on a bike tour, and this was our third stop. A receptionist showed us the rooms, then left the eight teenagers alone in the huge building. He'd told us he didn't officially work there and wasn't up to date with everything. From the photos, we'd expected a retro place, but not dirt that looked about 50 years old. There was food left in the fridge from previous guests. The bathroom was hairy, dirty, and smelly. The receptionist opened two toilets for us that wouldn't flush, apparently without the previous guests knowing, and they hadn't cleaned them afterward either. The rooms had huge bugs, cobwebs, and broken beds. The house felt scary, with its huge size, many closed doors, furniture covered in white sheets upstairs, and doors constantly slamming in the draft. In the morning they didn't even take our key, just told us to leave it in an agreed place. I really can't recommend it to anyone.
This was the priciest accommodation on our Balaton tour, and what we got was a terribly smelly yard that seemed not to have been cared for in years. The house looked like a pig's castle. When we arrived, the receptionist started installing the bathroom lighting. The rooms felt straight out of the 80s, with old beds and bedding, worn carpet, and a few dusty cushioned chairs. There's a pool table in the same room as reception 😃, but it's missing 3 balls 🙃. The receptionist, when present, left toward evening and told us to put the key in the mailbox in the morning because he wouldn't come in for it. Too bad there's no 0 stars.
