Green Garden Hotel

Breakfast was edible but repetitive, and the food was average. The room, though, was a dirty little hole, nothing like the rooms in the photos, which are in other buildings. The bathroom tiles were coming loose, the shower tray was rusty, and the curtain was torn. The place is described in several listings as a 2-3 star hotel, but to me it was at best a motel, and not much of one. The prices are quite high for what you get. The manager wasn't willing to find a compromise. We raised the problems while we were there, but he didn't really address them, offer compensation, or even apologize. His manner felt repulsive rather than guest-friendly. The playground swing was loose and held by just a few screws. It wobbled, and I worried it might come apart under the children. They did make some repairs after we asked. I wouldn't recommend the place, especially building "C". The people who are "lucky" enough, mostly foreigners, get building "B", which is renovated and has wifi. The other buildings don't, except the office!!!

The food was a bright spot: breakfast had plenty to choose from, and dinner was tasty and filling. It was a quiet, green setting, and there were games and a feeder for children. We stayed four days. The accommodation was relatively okay and smelled clean and fresh, but the TV was an old Nokia with only a few channels. There was no Wi-Fi in building C, and the shared room connection was only 2.5 Mbit/sec. Heating wasn't possible, there was no shared microwave, and the kitchen couldn't heat food either. Parking in front of the hotel cost 900 forints per day. The billiards table was wobbly, the white ball worn, and use was limited to one hour. The foosball table was incomplete and rickety. I didn't try ping pong because there was no net. I paid 25 thousand for four nights with half board, so the price matched the value. Still, it wasn't what the description said it would be.

We paid 67,000 HUF for two nights with breakfast and dinner for two adults and two children. Reception looked fine, but we were sent to another building on a separate plot, into two holes that felt more like a motel than a hotel. The room had four sockets and a small TV, but no CRT remote control. There was no WiFi in the room; in the 21st century, you had to go upstairs to get a signal. No microwave was available in the room or building, so we had to walk 100 metres to another plot with a plate in hand to heat food. The shower was a disaster. Water poured from the head, but it wouldn't stay in its holder, even after someone wrapped it in electrical tape. The shower cubicle was rotten. The bathroom faced the entrance door, so people on the street could see in and out. Parking cost 900ft in the yard, but you couldn't park there where we stayed. Street parking was free. There was no bin in the room, just a small one without a lid by the toilet. Thankfully we were there only two nights. I wouldn't recommend it or return.

The food was delicious and plentiful, and the servers were so kind. We stayed for a week with my girlfriend and were welcomed warmly when we arrived. Our little room was cute, clean, and perfectly fine, with WiFi and very comfortable beds. Everyone was exceptionally kind, especially the receptionists. Lake Balaton was about a two-minute walk away. We really enjoyed the week and can only recommend it.
