Hotel Carpe Diem - Anastasia

The hotel is in three villas, and the old baroque look gives the place a special feel. The facade is old and beautiful as it is, so I don’t think it needs renovating. Thick walls and high ceilings add to the atmosphere, and the walls also keep out noise from other rooms. The air conditioning cooled the rooms well, though with those walls it was hardly needed even in summer heat. We were especially taken with the outdoor space: a huge parking area and a large, beautifully maintained park with lawn, sandpit, children’s playground, wooden tables with glass tops, benches, and XXL umbrellas. There are also big trees for shade. We had breakfast at one of the tables 🤫. Evenings were peaceful, with many guests staying in the park for a drink or tea instead of heading into town. Our room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed. We’ve slept this well in only a few hotels in the EU. The bathroom was large, the shower had room for two, and there was plenty of hot water at all hours. Towels and toiletries, including shower gel, were supplied. The owner has thought about guest safety, especially for older people, and the shower has small, attractive non-slip ceramic tiles. Breakfast was plentiful, with several kinds of fruit, vegetables, eggs prepared in different ways, sausages, hot dogs, sweet spreads, honey, coffee, tea, juices, yogurt, muesli, and warm, crispy sweet and salty pastries. A capable younger gentleman prepared it. Special thanks to the ever-present Mrs. Ivett Gunics, whose professionalism and kindness impressed us. She was always helpful and clearly able to run such a lovely hotel. Thanks as well to Mrs. Ivett G., the hardworking guy in the kitchen, the other staff who worked quietly in the background, and the owner. You are all for 10.

The location is excellent, with the beach and all the bars and restaurants just a few steps away. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were comfortable with AC. It’s a very nice family hotel, with a lovely enclosed garden that you can enter only with the hotel card. There’s a children’s playground and some original decorations.

We got good value, and breakfast was very good. Parking is free on site. The trouble was the shower in our room, Nr. 13, which was stuck on boiling hot water, so we couldn’t wash. We told reception, and they said they’d fix it, but only sent the cleaning ladies squad. I’m not sure what they did, though showering became a bit more bearable. All in all, a good stay.

The location is perfect, and the room was great, with a wonderful bathroom. Service, the hotel staff, and breakfast were below average. For that price, I don’t think it was good value. There are better options in Siofok.
