Hotel Lövér Sopron

The staff made our stay memorable: Sachal and Sajith were great fun, Shalini was very helpful, and the local waitresses looked after us nicely. The hotel itself has a lot of potential, especially given its outstanding location, but it needs a substantial renovation and investment. Our room was just okay, with a retro feel. The wellness area barely qualifies as one, with a mini pool and room for at most eight people in the private pool. It didn’t seem suitable for kids or a family vacation. I’m sorry to say the food was terrible, not even okay.

We especially appreciated Shalini and Sachal, who were friendly and helpful with us and our daughter at breakfast and dinner. The hotel has a welcoming family feel, nice facilities, and a great location with a forest park close by.

The woodland setting was lovely, and the balcony looked out over the trees and hotel grounds. The staff were patient and kind, even with our last-minute booking for a group of more than 20. We stayed one night, with dinner and breakfast included. There were spa treatments, a pool, jacuzzi and gym, plus an indoor play area for younger kids and an outdoor park. The rooms were a bit dated but fine for what we needed. Meals had little for vegetarians or vegans beyond fruit and salads. Still, I’d consider staying again. It’s a great family hotel, and I think it would be rated four stars in the UK. One thing that changed my view: if you’re not a native speaker, be aware that the invoices aren’t in English. Ask reception to translate one or use Google Translate. At checkout we were asked to pay tourist tax, which seemed odd because in my experience in Europe it’s usually paid at check-in or included in the price. I translated the invoice we’d received at check-in and it looked like the tax was already included. That left a bad taste after an otherwise good stay, so I changed my rating.

The terrace view and the beautiful surroundings were a real highlight. The food was tasty and varied, with plenty to choose from, and the staff were friendly and efficient. I wasn’t happy with the cobwebs and little bugs in the room, though, and the wellness area was small. Those are why I’ve taken off one point.
