The room was comfortable and the spa thoughtfully laid out, so we enjoyed our stay. Still, it didn’t quite match the five-star standard I’d expect in Hungary. We had a coffee machine but no capsules, and the restaurant’s dishes could have been more refined to match its Michelin recommendation. An enjoyable visit, with some details that could be improved.

We had lovely rooms and really nice pools and saunas while staying here for a friend’s wedding. The facilities are good, but the service and communication left a bad mark on the whole experience. We weren’t given a welcome explanation at check-in about where things were, meal times, or what the spa offered. We eventually asked and got the information, but I’d expect that kind of introduction at a five-star hotel. Dinner was another problem. We were told the restaurant was fully booked, with no advance warning from the hotel, and finding another place to eat in a small town like Tarcal isn’t easy. Some of our friends pushed the dinner staff and found that there were actually plenty of free tables. Breakfast had lots of choice, though the dining room felt much too dark to me and the hot food was cold. After the wedding, which went on until 3 am, we asked about a late checkout and were told we had to leave by 10. We were willing to pay, and when we first booked we’d been told late checkout might be possible, but our request was immediately refused. I’ve never stayed somewhere where checkout came before breakfast was over. The lack of effort to accommodate guests, along with communication that was poor and sometimes rude, was my main complaint, even when accommodating us could have meant more business for the hotel. The facilities are lovely, but given the price and the five-star claim, the stay didn’t meet that standard for me.

We come back about once a year, every year. The hotel is beautiful, the food’s delicious, and the spa is fantastic. The staff are kind and very helpful. Thanks for understanding us.

We arrived exhausted after a very long day and found two single beds in our room, even though we’d requested a double when booking. Reception first said there wasn’t a double room available and suggested pushing the beds together. When we said we’d leave for another hotel with better service, the receptionist somehow found us a room with a double bed. That room wasn’t clean enough and was so close to the lobby that it felt as if we were still in the lobby the whole time. For what we paid, I don’t think we deserved to feel that way. We expected a manager to call and explain, but the service didn’t feel five-star at all. We were very disappointed.
