Aquamarina Hotel Visegrád

We loved this ship, and parking was included at a lower price than other places we considered. It was very quiet, with an amazing river view from our spacious, clean suite. The receptionists were kind and helpful, and the AC worked well. The room smelled a little fishy at first, but opening the windows cleared it quickly. The mattresses were really, really soft, and the terrace seating area had spider webs, though we managed fine. The ship looks great inside and out. ❤️

The location was handy for town and very close to the Knights Festival, and breakfast had a good variety. We both slept well, even though the bed was soft. The smoking situation was a major problem. Booking. com lists this as non-smoking, but it isn’t. People, including the cleaning woman, smoked on the long deck outside the cabins, where every room window faces. Cigarette smoke came into our cabin even with the windows shut. There were big ashtrays on the deck tables, including right by a No Smoking sign pointing smokers to an area at the end of the ship. The windows had screens, but keeping them open meant putting up with smoke. Room 220 wasn’t very clean when we arrived at 16:00. There was a sticky glass mark on the desk that we had to wipe off ourselves, and writing appeared on the bathroom mirror when it steamed up, so it clearly hadn’t been cleaned. That left me unsure what else had been missed. There was no inside turn latch on the cabin door. With only one key, one person couldn’t safely go out while the other stayed behind to sleep, since they’d be locked in and unable to unlock the door from inside.

Even though travel delays and traffic meant we arrived well after check-in hours, we were still welcomed. The location and service were superb, and the buffet food was amazing. The buffet setup may also be easier for nervous eaters. Just remember this is a boat on Danube, so it may not suit you if you get seasick. If you’re kind and courteous, you might even get to see the engine room.

There was just one issue with the room: only one window opened, and it had a mosquito net, so the room felt stuffy. Otherwise, our quadruple room worked well for two adults and two kids. It was quite spacious, comfortable, clean, and had a tea and coffee tray. The bathroom came with good-quality soap sets, and breakfast was simple but good. The bean-made coffee tasted great, too. We found an amusement room in the ship’s hold with activities for the kids and us to enjoy together. Apparently that space used to be a real casino many years ago. The boat has a unique history, and we were greeted with cute little towel ships on the beds. =)
