LeGreen Suite Ratulangi

I was in Ambon for work and stayed here for just 2 days. The hotel was nice, but the walls are pretty thin. I could hear people talking in the next room when I was trying to sleep. It’s in the middle of the city, though, so it’s easy to find different kinds of food, including seafood, nearby.

The place has a great theme, but the technology is old. The air conditioner, for example, needed me to call them twice to fix it. I’d have rated it 5 stars if I’d been here 10 years ago. These days it’s just OK, nothing special.

The location on Ratulangi worked well, with cafes, restaurants, the market and Ambon Plaza nearby. I’d thought the hotel was near the war cemetery, but its map was wrong; taking a bus from the market got me there easily. The bigger issue was the hotel itself. I’ve stayed in cheaper 2-star places that were much better, so I was surprised this is rated 3 stars. Breakfast was included, but I could only manage an omelet and toast. There was no regular milk for the coffee, and the coffee was awful. I’d have been better off at Barista Cafe around the corner. The breakfast room had tables, toilets, a TV and a balcony, but it was locked after breakfast, leaving no shared space. At night people gathered in the hallway by the lifts to smoke, talk and eat. I’d booked a smoking room and was given a non-smoking one; after I complained, they moved me to a room with a window, so that was sorted. The bathroom opened to the outside, and you had to keep its door shut or cockroaches would come in. My room also wasn’t made up every day. I won’t stay here again. I’d rather walk or take a becak to Jl Ratulangi from another hotel.

The service was poor. They didn’t understand the hotel voucher, so be careful if you book through Traveloka. They asked me to pay twice, and the booking could only be used before 12:00.
