Gending Kedis Luxury Villas

We had a four bedroom villa booked, but a friend had an emergency and couldn’t come, so we asked to switch to a three bedroom villa. They still wanted to charge a 50% cancellation fee. When I asked if they could waive it, they said maybe, and offered their best price. That three bedroom villa costs one and a half times the normal online price, and the four bedroom one costs even more. They didn’t make any real effort to help us. Money grabbers. I’d give customer service zero stars if I could.

Jalak Bali Villa has a lovely Balinese style, spacious rooms and a beautiful ambience. We stayed in the four bedroom villa, with a small pool and an infinity pool. The outdoor space is very Instagrammable, and the whole place has a great vibe. It seems ideal for a big family gathering. Service was good, and breakfast was great.

The staff were friendly, and the location is nice and quiet. The villas are a good size, but the food was very average. Stale, processed bread and croissants, processed jam, and juice that tasted like diluted concentrate. For a five star hotel, I wouldn’t expect that. The room design was ugly, trying to mix modern and old styles without the quality to pull it off. In my room, the AC sat at the bed frame, so it wasn’t blowing fresh air onto the bed and I had to rearrange things to get some air. The doors were hard to open and got stuck halfway, with gaps underneath that let the AC escape. I had to set it to a very high fan speed to feel any air. The bathroom tap either gave too little water or too much, which splashed onto the floor because it wasn’t centered with the sink. The shower stall was small, with only a thin stream of water, and the overhead shower sprayed everywhere except inside the shower.

Unsafe, don’t stay here! The villas were generally dirty, and the kitchen cupboards stank of rat urine and droppings. Some floorboards seemed close to breaking. The AC was very noisy and dripped onto the floor at the top of the stairs, making it a serious slipping hazard. The shower drain was blocked and flooded the bathroom, and sewage water came up into the bath. Staff were friendly but service was very slow. Breakfast was average, the bar cocktails were terrible, and we couldn’t get a drink after 10 pm. There was no way to charge anything to the room, and no manager on site to sort out these issues. We tried several times to reach the general manager, Douglas, by email and WhatsApp, but got no response. This accommodation was very expensive.
