Vila Shanti Beach Hotel

Breakfast was simple but tasty, and the small pool was just right for cooling off. Villa Shanti is a friendly little hotel, close to the beach and surrounded by shops, restaurants, and more. Even in the busy season, the staff were always ready to help and very nice. Our spacious room was kept clean, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. I loved it, nothing negative to say.

Please don't treat local and foreign guests differently. I had just come from Australia and was staying at this hotel when I invited my family to meet me there. When they used the pool, they were reprimanded very rudely and loudly, drawing the attention of everyone having breakfast at the nearby restaurant. I know the rules, and I can afford to pay for my family to swim. They could have told us in a less intimidating way. Local guests still come when Bali is quiet and there are fewer foreign visitors, so they deserve the same treatment.

We booked ten nights and left after one. Across all our trips to Sanur, this was the worst place we've stayed. They first offered us a deluxe room despite our paying for superior, then tried to move us upstairs even though we have mobility issues. The superior room we eventually got was awful. The bathroom fan was caked in mould and dust, the plaster was peeling throughout, and there were stains on the walls and an unidentified mark on the lampshade. It was generally unclean. I've complained and asked for a full refund. Fortunately, we found somewhere else with a much higher standard and a much lower nightly cost. This was our first and last stay at the resort. Calling that room "Superior" doesn't fit. The standard was very low.

The staff here seem not to have been shown how to speak to guests when correcting them. One person spoke so loudly that everyone turned to look at my family and me. We know the rules and have stayed at villas before. If staff need to give guests information, they should do it politely, clearly, and in a quieter voice. No wonder this villa is quiet and gets so many one-star reviews. The staff are bad. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
