RedDoorz Syariah at Syafla Guest House

With the city hotels fully booked, this was a nice place to stay. The room was new and clean, the price was affordable, and restaurants and cafes were close by.

There wasn’t a trash bin in either the room or the toilet. We were also asked to pay an extra 60K to upgrade the room because of overbooking. The receptionist, a woman, was unfriendly and didn’t smile. When we arrived, she asked whether this was really Syafla Guest House, then repeatedly asked what we needed in a tone that felt uncomfortable when we were already tired. With our luggage and children, the room on the third floor was a poor fit because there were so many stairs. We weren’t allowed to park in the guest house yard. She said cars coming in and out would be a bother, and told us, "Miss, just move the car to park in front of the mosque if it's a bother for me." We understand that the mosque yard is meant for people praying there, so we don’t usually park there.

For around 100,000 rupiah, I got a clean room and toilet, comfortable AC, warm water, soap, and clean towels and mattress. Shampoo was the one thing missing, but I could buy a sachet at the shop across the way. What you get feels like a lot more than the price. Restaurants and coffee shops are also close, just a short walk away, so there’s no need to go far for food.
