Jiwa Jawa Resort Ijen

We stayed here before a 1am hike up Mt Ijen, and a wedding down below made it hard to sleep. The two to three day event was so loud that music peaked at 70dB in the open-air restaurant. When we got back at 7.30 the next morning, it was blaring again during breakfast. We needed noise-cancelling earbuds to sleep and had to raise our voices to talk. I feel sorry for the place, since it seems to happen a lot, judging by the printouts apologizing, and is out of their control. Definitely check whether there's a 'local event' planned before booking.

The pool has beautiful scenery, but the water was too cold, so we skipped swimming. I hope they add a water heater later. We spent a night in the Jiwa Jawa Sabin room and everything else was excellent. Room service was kind, hygienic and tidy, and the food was delicious. I tried three different restaurants, and everything tasted great at an affordable price. No doubt about giving it five stars. I'll definitely visit again with my family.

We spent 4 days 3 nights here in early May 2024, and the staff and crew went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. When my partner had health issues, they took great care of us. My partner still talks about how friendly and approachable everyone was. Jiwa Jawa Ijen made our holiday unforgettable. We'll always treasure our time in this lush, verdant tropical getaway. The pool, art and views are fantastic, but the stay brought one unpleasant experience after another. The food was shockingly bad and overpriced. We sent some back, and all of us still ended up with stomach pain. Check-in was confusing, with climbing, arguing, moving from room to room, arguing again, paying extra and climbing some more. They only told us after check-in that the cheaper standard rooms are 300 meters downhill from the lobby and facilities. Like us, most people need an immediate upgrade, which costs much more. The upgraded rooms in the hotel aren't worth that price either. I should have read the reviews from previous years. The owner always responds to criticism the same way, with thanks for the feedback and hopes to see you again. The pictures make it all look good, but it isn't worth the money. I wouldn't recommend this place.
