Pepito Guest House

Breakfast was delicious, homemade Indonesian food, though you don't know in advance what you'll get. The spiced coffee was great too, and the friendly staff were keen to help, including with scooter hire and an Ijen trip at good prices. Our room looked a little smaller than the photos, but we had booked the cheapest one. Water pressure was almost nonexistent, though the toilet worked fine.

We were glad we didn't spend the night in the room, since we went on the Ijen crater tour. In the morning we found a cockroach in the bathroom. The rooms are downstairs in the basement, with little light and lots of damp. The VIP room at least looked like a proper room; the first one Pepito showed us felt more like a storage room with a bed. Nothing would dry, and there was only cold water. During the day there's not much nearby, and restaurants and Warungs open only in the late afternoon. Mama's breakfast was good, but nothing special.

Pepito guest house serves a good breakfast in the morning, and the guys can set you up with an Ijen tour if you want to join one. You can also go on your own if you arrange transport. The place itself is great, though a bit far from the main street and places to get food.

I can only give a good review because the staff are so friendly and helpful. We had a family room, and its standard was really low, though I heard the other rooms are better. Pepito speaks English, which matters a lot on Java.
