The property itself is beautiful, but the service didn’t feel like what you’d expect from a five-star hotel. I’d put the stay at about 6.5-7/10. The pool in our first villa smelled strongly of chlorine and wasn’t pleasant to use, so we eventually moved to another villa. Our toiletries also weren’t replenished. When the body lotion ran out, reception sent up an expired one that pilled on my skin. The replacement was expired too and poor quality. Housekeeping kept calling and ringing the doorbell, then shouting in the hallway. One time, while I was in the shower, they called three times and rang three times within minutes. I couldn’t exactly come to the door soaking wet. That needs more professional handling. Reception also had a few small issues, and the team wasn’t especially pleasant. Restaurant service was slow and confusing. Staff took away our cutlery without replacing it, and things seemed disorganized. There were no towels available at the beach either. To use a sunbed, you had to collect towels at the pool and carry them over. Beach service was basically nonexistent, much like the restaurant service. The attitude, organization, and attention to detail fell short of the hotel’s five-star claims. It was hard to see the luxury in the experience.

We made a last-minute choice to book a villa on this trip and came back to our favorite, Royal Santrian. It was such a relaxing, enjoyable stay. We tried the in-villa BBQ and had a romantic dinner on the beach, and loved both. Manager Suardi was warm and helpful throughout. We’ll definitely return.

The grounds are immaculate, and the private-pool villas are extraordinary. We had delicious meals with lots of choice, especially enjoyed the atmosphere at the tables near the beach for dinner, and found the whole property beautiful. The team made the stay feel first class from the moment we arrived. Everyone was gracious, pleasant, and accommodating. Two trainees deserve a special mention: Sinta looked after us at several beachside dinners and remembered our names and usual first drinks. Her positivity is infectious. Wyan, if I’ve got the spelling right, was wonderful at breakfast and lovely to talk with. He shared his experiences studying to join the hospitality industry. We’re grateful to them both and wish them all the best!

There are only 20 villas at this lovely adults-only resort, and the staff are so kind and helpful. The spacious villas have authentic Balinese decor, and having a private pool is a real bonus. Breakfast was wonderful, and we loved the best massage and treatment at the day spa. There’s also a free shuttle around Nusa Dua, a minibar replenished daily, and complimentary afternoon tea by the sea, served in a beautiful cage.

We stayed five nights and hardly left the grounds. The place feels peaceful, lush, and dreamy, and the beach was lovely for swimming and tanning. Food was flawless, whether at breakfast, afternoon tea, room service, or teppanyaki. Christmas and New Year had such a gorgeous atmosphere here. Can’t wait to come back.
