The dog is sweet, but seemed to have fleas. Watching him scratch constantly made me feel bad; I wished they’d treat him for parasites, since he’d add so much to the atmosphere otherwise. Free drinking water, tea, and coffee are provided, though the door is closed at night and early in the morning, so getting them can be awkward. My room was clean, with AC and a private bathroom with a hot shower. For the location, about a five-minute walk to the park entrance counter, the price was good. Dinner was quite good at 50k IDR, and I could order a vegetarian meal. Communication was the weak point. They promote their own guide, but nobody contacted me before I arrived, and the guide was an hour away. I ended up hiring one at the park entrance. Ordering dinner was also complicated, and nobody was there when I checked out. I was their only guest that week, so I’d expected a bit more attention, even if just to offer extra services like a taxi back to Manado.

The people are lovely and the location is good. There’s AC, and the homestay’s guide costs 500k per person, including a morning and night walk plus the park entrance day pass. Our guide was knowledgeable and had a very good telescope. Homemade dinner is sometimes available for 50k per person, with other options and an Alfamart nearby. Bring earplugs for the roosters and dogs.

We were really happy with the food, and our guide Anes from the homestay showed us lots of different animals without rushing. His English was very good, and he answered all our questions about the wildlife. The rooms are spacious, with a comfy bed, mosquito net, and AC. The private bathroom was very clean and had a hot shower too. We felt welcome right away at Tangkoko jungle homestay and enjoyed our stay a lot. We’d definitely come back.

A crested macaque showed up at my door less than 20 minutes after I arrived, peered inside, then went to eat bananas behind my room. Quite a welcome! The forest is great, and we had two excellent guides, first Steven and then his friend who worked at the homestay. They helped us see hornbills, macaques, tarsiers, bats, birds, and kus kus bears. We had a great time at Tangkoko Jungle Homestay. It’s close to the park entrance, and the rooms are big, clean, and comfortable, with mozzie nets and nice bathrooms. Highly recommended.

A friend and I spent two nights here and went on a full-day jungle tour with the guide. He speaks fluent English and has an eye for finding even the tiniest things.
