For 3 nights and 4 days, Gde showed me two waterfalls, took me to the local temple and Gianyar night market, brought me to the local track to exercise and showed me where to get a good massage. He and his family weren’t just gracious hosts. On my first day Gde told me, “My family is your family, my house is your house, I am your brother while you are here!” The family home stay was supremely clean and centrally located, and the family was really nice. I’m a solo female traveller and would hang out with Gde again whenever I’m back in Bali. I researched a dozen places after Ubud because I wanted to avoid the super touristy areas. I grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii, and places like Honolulu, our version of Kuta, aren’t what I’m looking for.

Even though I only stayed for 1 night, it felt like home. Mr. Gde and his family were awesome, and they have a cute dog too. It was an amazing culture experience to feel like part of the family. The room was really clean, with TV, AC, good wifi and a water heater. It’s close to lots of waterfalls and the night market. And your nasi and mie goreng for breakfast were amazing, like something from a super fancy restaurant! Best place to stay in Gianyar.
