Pawana Villas

The villa had some good points, but the upkeep made our five days disappointing. The staff were friendly, though their English was limited. Towels, sheets, and the mosquito net had stains, and the toilet dispensers had very little product. Even after we asked, they weren’t refilled. There were cockroaches, the garden needed more care, and our villa wasn’t locked after room service. It was hard to see our things in the very dark room and outdoor area. Some lamps needed replacing, including the pool light and the downstairs light in my villa, and the Wi-Fi was poor. With little nearby, we expected to spend quite a lot of time at the villa, so those details really affected our stay.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, but the villa itself let us down. We stayed six nights, and the isolated setting was hard to manage unless you had plans every day. It’s about 30-40 minutes from Ubud Centre, there’s not much around, and staff spoke very little English. We saw just one other villa in use during our whole visit, which added to the feeling of being cut off. There were cleanliness and security issues too. On the first night, we found blood on one room’s sheets. Staff said they’d change them in the morning, but we insisted they do it that night, and they did. Later in the week I noticed old blood stains on our own sheets as well. The bathroom tile stains upset my partner, and the bathtub looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Our daughter slept upstairs, but her door wouldn’t lock. We were uneasy about both the location and the villa’s condition, so we told her to block the door with things.

The room was clean and peaceful, and the service was really nice. Everyone on staff was friendly. Just know it’s far from Ubud city center and there aren’t any shops nearby, so you’ll need transport.

The rooms were spacious and fine, and the setting felt quiet and remote. The houses are a bit outside Ubud. Communication was tough because staff spoke very little English. They really did try their best, though, and I felt bad when they couldn’t understand everything I said.
