Campago Resort Hotel

Breakfast came to our room at 7AM: fried rice and green bean porridge. I heard you can ask for a different breakfast at the front desk. The hot water was steady, the area was comfortable and good for a morning run, and the customer service was quite generous. Some small things were broken or worn, including lamps, the aircon remote, dials that didn’t work, and peeling wallpaper. The room layout was funny too: if the restroom door is open when you come in, you can see someone using the toilet 😂. And if you’re a light sleeper, bring your own pillow. The ones there were hard and bulky, not comfortable for me.

The views from this old hilltop resort are good, though it’s some distance from the city center. The facilities haven’t been well looked after, and the internet in ground-floor rooms was very bad. Breakfast was good, with a set menu served at 7 am.

The room was clean and comfortable, with a balcony and great views of Bukittinggi. The air conditioning is old but still gets cold, and the bathroom works fine, with hot water and good toilets. It is looking worn, though, with loose faucets and a scratched mirror, and the other facilities also need repairs. Kind staff and breakfast help make up for some of those shortcomings. The resort sits on a hill and has especially nice views from its lookout tower. It has real potential, and a committed renovation could turn it into a one-stop resort. For now, it’s a good budget hotel in Bukittinggi that could use a facelift.

It’s a cool, quiet place, and the weather is already cold enough that I didn’t need AC. I liked being surrounded by locals who keep their identities, so I didn’t have to worry wherever I went. It was rainy during my stay, so there wasn’t much I could do. It really tastes like Indonesia.
