Fahira Hotel Bukittinggi Syariah

The hotel is very central, within walking distance of Jam Gading, Japanese Tunnels, Pasar Atas, Pasar Bawah, Jembatan Limpapeh, the zoo, and other places. The room was clean, and the AC and hot water worked well. Towels, shower gel, shampoo, a toothpaste set, kettle, coffee and tea were provided, and there were two pillows per bed, yes! The lift broke down for half a day while we were there, though. There’s also a nice rooftop cafe, but it was closed during the day in Ramadhan. Most of the staff were only so-so friendly, except for one guy who brought a few things to our room on the first day.

The rooftop has a great view, and the hotel has a good location, WiFi, and AC. Fahira is one of the nicer places to stay in Bukittinggi. Tommy was very helpful when I checked in, and was one of the few staff members who spoke very good English. He also helped me book an airport transfer. I’ll definitely come back.

The location is a real plus, less than a five-minute walk from Jam Gadang, but I wouldn’t stay here again if I return to Bukittinggi. I spent two nights here, and after the first I asked staff to clean the toilet because the walls were filthy. They never did. The room wasn’t clean, some things were broken, and the bathroom floor was slippery and moldy. The shower swung between scalding hot and painfully cold. I dreaded using the toilet because it was so dirty, and it didn’t look like the floor had been scrubbed in a long time.

Good value, lovely views, and the chocolate sauce at the breakfast buffet is great.
