The family were so welcoming and accommodating, and made us feel right at home. One night we saw them making dinner and said how good it looked. They brought a huge portion up to our room, and it was some of the best food we ate in Indonesia! The rooms are basic, but very clean, with wifi and air con. Highly recommend if you’re traveling on a budget.

I wasn't bothered by the money itself, but the switch was a real letdown. I had booked a nearby homestay, then on arrival was told they needed to put me in another place they managed, Kubu. The bathrooms there were old, families downstairs were noisy, there wasn't even a free bottle of water, and street noise and music carried in. Agoda showed a 90k rupiah difference between the places, but they gave me only 25k back. I felt scammed.

The room had a slight smell, almost like there might be fungus, which was the one downside. Otherwise, you get a lot for the price: there's a small kitchen, and the host is really nice and ready to help with anything you need.
