Mikuk Homestay

After a cold, windy morning surf, the hot water felt amazing. The place is clean and super close to everything. I liked having natural light through the windows without the morning sun getting too intense. I was in room 6, and my only real gripe was that the toilet doesn’t flush very strongly, though that’s no big deal unless you’re staying longer. It’s a lovely spot. If you get one of the two upstairs rooms, the evening breeze and sky colors are amazing.

There’s a small kitchen where you can make morning tea or coffee, and you can buy a reasonably priced bottle of water too. The room was clean, nice, and great value, and the host was lovely, going the extra mile to make the stay pleasant. Right in the heart of Canggu, you can walk to pretty much all the places you’d want to see. One tip: contact the owner and book directly so she gets more value than through the booking platforms. Support local business and people with all of your money. Just book it!

We stayed for a month and had a wonderful time. The homestay looks like a little temple, with pretty houses, lots of plants, and Balinese style sculptures in the outdoor area. The house on the far left, where we stayed, is just a little bigger than the others. Rooms were cleaned every two days, which we asked for rather than daily. Upstairs guests can see part of the sunrise. It’s super cheap right now and within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, laundry, and cafes. There’s a Warung across the street, just a minute away, plus other places to eat. The kitchen is small, but we used its fridge, and there’s free hot and cold water, tea, and coffee. It’s a very central place where you can reach everything on foot. The family are so friendly, and we enjoyed staying with locals. Just ask if you need something, and please be respectful. They take such good care of the place that it felt like home. Nuri and Mikuk might also be able to rent you a scooter. Every morning and through the day they make little offerings and light incense. We loved the smell and being somewhere so connected to the family’s culture. Sometimes they left us fruit from ceremonies in front of our room, and Nuri told us about their culture. The owners are a lovely Balinese family, and the indoor Temple and garden are beautiful. There’s air conditioning, free but slow Wi-Fi, and a small fruit plate in the morning. The location is central in Changgu, with restaurants and shops nearby. The rooms look modern apart from the bathrooms, but the cleaning was below average: there was mold in the main room and cockroaches in the bathroom. They hadn’t changed the previous guests’ bed linen until I complained. The homestay also rents motorbikes and arranges private transport. I stayed three nights.
