Our booking was for eight nights, October 20 to 28, and we’d made it six months ahead. After a two-hour taxi ride, we arrived a few days ago only to be told they’d overbooked and that the room was broken, so we couldn’t stay. In a way, I was glad it happened because the place looked very run down and dirty. Better to stay in Kuta.

The town was quiet and away from the tourist crowds, which made this a good place to unwind. The beach is nearby, and food and entertainment are only a short drive away. The staff were really friendly.
