Danka Villa

I chose Danka Villa after seeing the rave reviews and high scores across several sites. Unfortunately, the stay was objectively bad, and I feel a negative review is warranted. The room had been advertised with a private pool, but its condition was dated and unpleasant. There was mold all over the ceilings, the toilet was very old, and the walls were chipping. I didn’t enjoy spending time in the room. The location was okay, but it’s on a busy road with a lot of trash nearby. Other parts of sanur are much nicer and easier to walk around. The staff were friendly, but didn’t seem prepared for English-speaking tourists. Their English was broken, and communication was difficult. When I asked for a yoga mat, they didn’t know what I meant and couldn’t provide one even after I showed them. I also asked about booking a tour to see Nusa penida. The man seemed confused, then said he could call his friend. I declined. I expect a four-star hotel to be able to handle and help coordinate basic requests like these. The airport shuttle was another problem. I confirmed a driver would arrive at 930 am, but when that time came, nobody was there. I watched two employees scramble to find a solution and call around. A driver finally arrived at 945 to take us to the airport. My frustration comes from the very high expectations set by the earlier reviews and photos. As an English tourist, I also expected staff to be better equipped to handle requests, as they have been at other hotels. Don’t expect a resort-like stay with English-speaking employees and catered services. This is very much just a private room with a pool.
