Ekas Beach Guesthouse

For 170k IDR (9 dollars), I still expect a clean room. This was easily the worst room I’ve ever slept in, and I was so relieved to leave after one horrible night. We had nowhere else to sleep, though my brother had a different room and ran into the exact same problems. The AC didn’t work, and the floor tiles were broken. There was just one power socket, beside the door at eye level, nowhere near the bed, so charging my phone was a hassle. The toilet and shower were rancid, and the room smelled bad. I found black hairs on sheets that clearly hadn’t been changed, and the towels had brown stains that made me doubt they were fresh. The host gave me an America themed teddy bear blanket because I didn’t want to lie on the dirty sheet.

The rooms are simple, but the people here are incredibly welcoming. It’s a lovely place to sleep, recharge, and get excellent food at good prices. I’ll definitely return for my next kitesurfing trip. Ushka deserves a special thank you, she’s the star!

The bathroom really needs attention, it was very unclean. WiFi also drops out half the time, and I found the prayer calls hard to sleep through. The location is great, though, and the bed was comfortable with good air conditioning. It’s run by a friendly family.

The host family is sweet and friendly, the laundry service is great, and the bed is comfortable. In my opinion, this is one of the better affordable choices around Ekas, though prices in general are high. I could have used a chair or another table, but I didn’t ask for one. More outlets, especially one by the bed, would help, or they could provide an extension cord.
