Oase Van Java

There are only four rooms, so book a few days ahead. It’s a lovely place for a honeymoon, too. The staff are nice, and they can serve tasty breakfast or arrange lunch and dinner. It’s quiet and very private because it’s far from the city. A little hard to find, but you can get there with an online ride service.

The quiet setting and friendly staff are hard to leave behind. We stayed in a very nice room at oasevanjava1, with a lovely view toward Ambara and the swimming pool. The hotel sits around 600 meters up, so the nights are cool enough that you hardly need air conditioning, though every room has it. You may hear the village speakers now and then. Getting there takes some figuring out on narrow village roads, especially with oasevanjava1 and oasevan java2 close to each other. There’s no food service at the hotel, just a very basic warung nearby, Gofood delivery, or restaurants 3-4 km away, mostly Indonesian food. A good place to experience Javanese village life.

We had a nice stay. The room was clean, the hot water worked well, and the mountain view in the morning was beautiful. The pool was fine too. A few little insects were floating in it in the morning, probably drawn by the pool light overnight, but the gardener cleaned them up quickly. The housekeeping man was friendly. We were happy to look for meals downtown, and simple coffee, Indomie, or nasi goreng was enough for us.

The cabins are separate, but my room was in poor shape. There was mould on the ceiling and walls, the water pump kept starting up, and a power switch was hanging from loose wires. The stove had no gas, and the hot shower worked only sometimes. There’s also a noisy mosque nearby. This place is sliding toward ruin.
