Captain Goodtimes

I’ve been travelling solo for a few months, and this hotel felt like home. The room and facilities were really nice, with great food and a beautiful pool, and all the staff were so kind, helpful and lovely 😊 It was hard to leave. If I get the chance to come back to Gili Air, I’ll stay at Captain Goodtimes again without hesitation. About the comments on the call to prayer from the mosque: as travelers, we should learn about and respect the cultural heritage of the places we visit. The Gili Islands are Muslim islands. The bungalow is clean, the room was nice, and the staff were friendly. I really liked the location in the middle of the island, with an easy walk to the beach for sunset and good food nearby. They could cook the noodles a little longer for Mie goreng. The pool is big and nice, though kids can make some noise if your room is close to it. Still, a good place to stay. Thank you!

The rooms were in such a disastrous state that they completely ruined our vacation. The bungalows look charming at first, but they smell of mold. When we left the island, we had to have all our laundry cleaned, including the children's stuffed animals. Other reviews mention this too, so clearly we weren't the only ones with the problem. I found the health risk from that moldy smell unacceptable, and I can't recommend the hotel given those unbearable room conditions. It's especially disappointing because the staff were exceptionally friendly, breakfast was good, and the location was unbeatable.

Breakfast and the staff service were impossible to fault, and we enjoyed our stay enough to extend it. Captain Goodtimes is family friendly, with a fantastic pool, a diving area, and loungers. Its central spot is handy for exploring, though getting there with luggage is tricky. We needed a horse and cart for our suitcases. The rooms feel more like eco lodges, with a damp smell and quite a few insects. That seems typical of places to stay on Gilli Air and part of the charm. The internet wasn't reliable.
