Rumah Amel

The privacy here suited me much better than a beachside hotel where people can watch you sunbathing. I ended up adding another week to my stay, and I’d happily recommend this sweet little place. There are good, affordable restaurants nearby. Amel House has four rooms, a pool, and a friendly, clean feel. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the harbor and 8 minutes from the beach. I chose to walk since the island is small, though you can rent a bike or take a horse taxi. Staff go the extra mile, fresh water is available on request, and the shower is warm. They also make an effort to reduce waste, and breakfast is available on request.

We spent four nights here and had a lovely time. The room was beautifully decorated, with lots of thoughtful little touches, and the AC worked perfectly. I especially liked the outdoor shower, showering in the sun has a whole different feel. The staff were so helpful and friendly. They rented us bikes and sorted out our laundry and tickets to Bali. Walking to the beach or town takes a while, so I’d definitely suggest renting bikes.

We were really happy to find vegan breakfast, with gluten-free choices too, after opting to include breakfast. Amel House is on a quiet street near the center, and beaches and plenty of restaurants are easy to reach on foot. The new management had updated the decor and service when we stayed in February 2023. Our room felt cozy and was very clean, with a minibar, cute extras, and high-quality bathroom products. You can also buy ecological toiletries or other necessities there if you’ve forgotten yours. They can arrange bikes and laundry as well.

The bed was comfortable, and the rooms were spacious and clean. We arrived just as they’d finished the pool, which was a lovely surprise. The staff welcomed us so warmly and did everything they could to make the visit memorable. Couldn’t have asked for a better place on the island. Hope to see you all again soon, Mats & Lorrie.
