There were three live cockroaches in the bathroom and bedroom that night, after we’d already found a dead one on the bedroom AC. There was also something that looked like vomit on the toilet seat, which was loose enough that you could slide off it. When we told the owner, he seemed to laugh it off and wasn’t helpful. We decided to leave rather than stay somewhere so dirty. He agreed to return part of our money, but was no longer friendly. When we came back the next day for our laundry, he barely spoke to us. He couldn’t handle criticism, in my view, and this was the worst bungalow we had in Indonesia. I’d suggest staying elsewhere and paying more for a clean room, instead of paying too much for a filthy one. At first the owner was very friendly and welcomed us with coffee and a bottle of water. He said he’d had some poor reviews lately and asked us to tell him if anything wasn’t as we wished instead of going straight to a bad review. Cockroaches are common in Indonesia, but I consider them a bad hygiene sign because they’re attracted to dirty places and can carry diseases.

We found the Gili Islands very disappointing. They were full of trash, the seabed seemed completely dead, and it felt like locals only wanted to scam tourists. The hotel was outrageously priced for what it offered, and there are much better places nearby. There were cockroaches everywhere and the dirtiest bathroom I’ve ever seen. Our bed was uncomfortable, the sheets were dirty, roosters crowed at 5 a.m., breakfast was disastrous, and the coffee was undrinkable. On arrival they offered us fresh juice, which was the end of the good part. When we were leaving, we’d walked more than half an hour in unbearable heat to withdraw money from the ATM, had trouble with it, and only had enough to pay for the “hotel.” We politely asked for water, and were told there was none without money. The owners were ungrateful. Completely disappointing, and NOT RECOMMENDED.

It’s cheap and has AC, which is why I gave it this rating. The place isn’t especially fresh, and it’s not close to the boat harbor. Still, it works for a few nights on Gili, but...

The place is clean, and the owners are friendly. Nice spot.

The place was noisy, and the comfort was pretty basic for what a night costs.
