Choska Residence

They held on to my passport even though we'd paid for the booking in advance. At check-in, they gave us a room with no wash basin. We complained about how dirty it was and were moved to a much smaller room. When we checked out, they said they'd inspect the room before releasing my passport. The rest was normal, but I wouldn't recommend the place. The room had no bedside table, the shower was broken, and they didn't change the bed when we asked. It was noisy enough to hear everything nearby, including luggage, guests in the corridor, doors opening, and people singing next door. They were renovating while guests were staying there. The emergency lamp didn't work, which would be useful in an emergency, and the TV Wi-Fi didn't work either.

The rooftop city view was a nice place to relax in the evening, and the decor has Indonesian cultural touches. We stayed at Choska Residence, a boutique hotel around an 8-minute walk from Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia, and about 14 minutes from Thamrin City. It’s really convenient for exploring Central Jakarta on foot. Our bunk-style room had basic amenities and nothing fancy, but it was worth the rate for somewhere to shower and sleep. We spent most of our time out, so it worked well for us. The staff were all friendly and helpful, which made the stay feel welcoming and smooth. I’d recommend it if you want a clean, affordable, well-located place in Jakarta.

The photos aren't trustworthy. There was no ventilation in the room, and the strong musty smell made it impossible to sleep. The sheets were very yellow, and the cleanliness was extremely questionable. I asked to switch rooms because I couldn't stay with that smell, but they said the hotel was full. They said the only available rooms cost about as much as a very high-end hotel. Seriously, avoid this place.
