Hotel Maxim Kwitang Jakarta

We booked a cheaper room on the third floor, but were put in a more expensive premium room on the ground floor. They seemed to think they were doing us a favor, though I dread to think what the cheaper rooms are like. The room smelled damp, with cigarette burns across the bed, and there was no hot water. We had first asked to move because the AC was noisy and didn’t blow cold air, but were told the hotel was full and to wait until the next day. That changed after we found a bed bug. In the first room, there were ants and geckos, ants came in through the door and rotting bathroom wood, the shower head was dirty, and there was a hole in the bathroom ceiling. The walls had water marks and other marks, one of the two TVs was broken, and the AC made loud noises without cooling. I’ve travelled around Southeast Asia for three months, including Thailand and Vietnam, on a budget of £10 a night, so I’m used to basic places. On the ground floor, staff also shouted at cars reversing to park in the early hours every morning, with no regard for people sleeping.

The shower had very little water pressure, and both the towels and bed smelled bad. It’s an old hotel with minimal service, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

I needed a room in an emergency and paid 220k, though the rate listed online was around 140. The room was very basic, and the air conditioner wasn’t cold at all.

The photos and videos say it all. At least the hot water worked perfectly and never gave me trouble.
