Hotel Melawai 1

Comfortable for a one-night stand.

We expected rooms that matched the agreed price and what the website showed, but the rooms at Hotel Melawai were very outdated, dirty, and moldy. After our group complained, we were sent across the street to Hotel Melawai 2. The fourth floor there was nice and recently refurbished, but my family ended up on the third floor in a room worse than our first one. We planned to stay ten days and left after just one. When our friends checked the place beforehand, the owners hadn’t been honest about the room conditions, and we got only about a 50% refund. That tripled our hotel costs. Lesson learned: don’t pay until you’ve seen the exact room you’ll be staying in.

For the price, it’s totally worth it. My non-smoking suite was clean and neat, and the shower worked almost perfectly. The hotel should get the elevator repaired faster, and breakfast could be better.

After waiting from 11 am until 3 pm, I was turned away. I’d booked through an app in May for a June check-in, but staff kept telling me to wait while they checked my booking ID, which they said didn’t exist in their system. They then said the hotel was overbooked. I could see people who arrived much later checking in, while plenty of others also couldn’t get rooms and had to be relocated. I was there for Ennichisai 2019, and this meant I couldn’t enjoy it. Thankfully, Traveloka moved me to a much better hotel. While waiting, I got to see some friends’ rooms, and was glad I didn’t have to stay overnight: they looked dirty and old and smelled bad, with ceilings rotted from leaks. The hallway had lots of trolleys carrying dirty laundry, hotel laundry was hanging on the balcony, and both the room and hallway lighting were dark.
