I came for what was meant to be a two-week stay, but left on the first day. The bed had bed bugs all over it, and when I checked beneath the mattress, it was infested there too. I checked a bed in another room and found it infested as well. The downstairs rooms also had no hot water. When I told the owner, he barely looked up from his phone, showed no concern, and told me to find another place if I couldn’t put up with it. He didn’t apologize or help me find somewhere else. I had to walk around the area looking for a place and found a way better one down the road for the same price. Luckily, I hadn’t paid yet. I’ve stayed in some gross hostels and almost never complain, but this place was terrible. It was old and dirty, with no pool, and far from everywhere. Don’t stay here. The owner wasn’t friendly or kind, and seemed to have no care for his guests.

The two nights I spent there were rough. A man in the next room was sick and throwing up both nights, and I could hear him so clearly that it felt like he was in my room. Silver bugs and ants kept getting on the bedding. I expect bugs in Bali and hardly ever complain about them, but there were so many that I couldn’t get comfortable. I’d paid for a month, but after an unforeseen situation on the first night, I had to leave the following night. I understood that this was inconvenient and asked Helmut & Esther, the owners, whether they could refund any of it. They said they’d paid bills with my money after only 24hrs and couldn’t return anything. Their reply was, “Just stay so no headache,” even though I had no choice but to leave. After that, they stopped responding to me. I wanted to love the place, but had a horrible experience. I’d look around more before booking, since there are plenty of nearby places that seem more worthwhile.

The people here made the stay feel like home. The owners from Germany and Indonesia were lovely, and I especially enjoyed their children and doggies. The staff were kind and pleasant too, and they all speak English and Bahasa. I found this cozy homestay in Ungasan through a friend. Inside, there’s a garden with a few tables, and my room had a distinctive mix of Balinese architecture and personal touches. It was a good size, with a terrace and a very comfortable bed. There are a few small stores nearby, and it’s near the beach. I recommend it!

I’ve stayed here twice now, and it’s the best place I’ve found in Bali. It’s quiet and not crowded like the rest of Bali, with awesome rooms and super friendly, helpful owners. There’s a good shared kitchen for anyone who likes cooking their own meals. The beaches nearby are great for surfing, so this is a good choice if you want to surf. A very eclectic, artsy place, with lots to look at. Good for travelers who want something non-traditional. There’s a pool table, chess, checkers, darts, and a hookah bar, plus very friendly staff and two golden retrievers on the property. Rooms and food
