The room was a terrible deal at 200k. It’s only 2.5 by 2.5 meters, including a 1 by 0.7 meter bathroom. There’s no bathroom door lock, a bug was on the bed, and the sheets weren’t white anymore. Noise made it hard to sleep: trains, people talking and walking outside, and passing motorbikes and cars were all easy to hear. I’ve been to Jombang before, and there are better places nearby with more space and a better location. The area is secluded even though it’s only a 30-minute walk from the train station. It’s surrounded by factory-like buildings, some abandoned, with big trucks passing and parking nearby, despite the paddy fields around it. As a woman traveling alone, I wouldn’t recommend the location. People stopped me repeatedly on the way there, even in broad daylight. Check-in was a hassle. Staff had a computer, but it didn’t seem useful to them, and I had to send a lot of files via WhatsApp even though they already had the numbers. There’s a QR code in WhatsApp, so please use it. Entering numbers means adding the contact, which is a pain. Keeping my ID is outdated and weird for a place in Java, especially when more remote places in Indonesia don’t have this policy because they know about scanners and phones that can take a photo. I’d paid in full through the app and asked them to scan or photograph my ID because I wanted to rent a motorbike. It made more sense for the rental place to hold my ID, since they’re paid afterward. The girl said no and asked me to leave my driving license instead, saying there are no checks in the city. I was confused: was she asking me to break the law? That wasn’t even the point. If something happened and I didn’t have my ID with me, that would be worse. They could have scanned it or taken a photo, especially since I’d paid in full and was staying there. So stupid. There are way too many rules for what they charge, including a ban on eating or drinking in the room. They demand too much and don’t give much in return.
