Bali Merita Villa

There is a one-eyed dog that runs loose on the public road by the hotel. It has chased and barked at children, and my son was frightened to cross the road to the supermarket alone after it nearly bit him a few times. It seems to go after smaller people, though it hasn't attacked adults, and I consider it dangerous for kids and for anyone afraid of dogs. I asked reception several times to deal with it, but nothing changed. The staff seem fond of the dog and feed it. This is a public hotel with open access to the road, not a private villa. If you want me to remove this review, do something about the dog.

The property felt poorly maintained, and the service was low quality. I asked repeatedly for the ceiling to be fixed because it looked as if it might fall. Then the shower barely gave any water, and although they tried to repair it several times, it never improved. They still refused to refund me, so I checked out early. For what the villa offered, it was overpriced. I also suspect that most of the five-star reviews are fake.

I ended up making this villa feel like a great home by buying equipment and doing a lot of repairs and upgrades myself. I enjoy DIY, so that part suited me. When I first arrived, though, the condition and equipment weren't very good. For a long stay and the price, it can be amazing once you put in the work. It's a bit sad that the owners don't seem to notice the details needed to make all the villas clean, beautiful, and polished. The pool bottom needs regular cleaning with a hose or vacuum head. I used a hose myself and watched the green water turn blue. It looks great now. Asking them to run the filtration regularly helps a lot too.

The location is good, it's a private villa, and animals are allowed, so there are lots of cute dogs. The place has potential, which makes our experience especially unfortunate. We stayed several months and finally left early because so many problems went unresolved, although we still had to keep paying. We couldn't have an honest, open conversation with the owner. The facilities are old, from the tables and chairs to the bed, and the wood had worms and other insects in it. Service didn't match the rent, especially the owner's communication. She wouldn't admit mistakes, but was willing to demand payment for services that weren't provided. WiFi was poor or sometimes absent, and water was sometimes unavailable. There were so many odd situations I could write a book. The pool was empty one day, then the water turned green; mold appeared around the bathroom; there were leaks in and around the house; and after cleaning, they left cobwebs and spiders behind. Sorry this is so negative, but that's how it was.
