The Ulun Kubu Villas

The reception staff were the only bright spot, they were kind. I’m writing this because I hope management will act, and it makes me sad to leave such a review. We were excited to rent a villa for our honeymoon because the photos looked beautiful, but the stay was awful. The location felt remote, down several unlit alleys with poor visibility. The room had ants, mosquitoes, spiders and lizards. There must have been 200 or 300 ants inside, which was disgusting. I understand a villa open to the outdoors can have some bugs, but charging over 1M IDR for facilities in this state is not professional. The place was poorly maintained, with old neglected furniture, and the wooden pieces were damaged. The fridge was full of mold and dirt that looked years old, while the freezer was blocked with ice. The frost came off easily after unplugging it for a few hours, so it clearly hadn’t been cleaned in ages. The kitchenware was all dirty and broken. I only took pictures of the things most important to me, out of respect. The TV barely worked, its remote was broken, and it hardly connected to Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi didn’t work anywhere in the villa, so get a good SIM card if you want internet. Laundry cost us 300k IDR to wash four T-shirts, and they wouldn’t tell us the price in advance, saying they’d let us know when they brought the clothes back. I slept with spiders around me and showered with 300 ants around me. We couldn’t recommend this place under any circumstances, and I wouldn’t return even for free.

Not a bad budget option in high season, and a decent, fairly average place to stay. It’s quiet and tranquil, with decent amenities. Staff could be hard to find, though, and even when breakfast was served early, there was nobody around to answer a couple of minor questions. Families should know the pool has no barrier and the tiles get extremely slippery when wet.

It’s unusual to find a great villa so close to Denpasar, but this one is. The whole stay went smoothly, and the place was super clean. I also loved the layout, it makes the villa feel spacious despite the limited area.

The villa has a lovely modern minimalist design, plus a large garden and swimming pool. It’s cozy and pretty quiet, with no construction nearby, which is an important thing to check before booking. It suits up to 8 people.
