It's definitely cheap, but it isn't very cheerful. The owner seems friendly, though it feels like it's all about the money. The kitchen is especially grimy, and the rest of the place is shabby and could use some care. There are plenty of better options in this area, so take my advice and look elsewhere.

I've known Villa Puri Dewata since it was built in 2002. It went through some difficult years after Bali Bomb I (2002), Bali Bomb II (2004), and the Aceh Tsunami (2005), when visitors to Bali fell from 5 million a year to 1.4 million. I think the people managing the villa can be proud that this small and medium enterprise survived and even grew through those years against the odds. It did so without help from banks, large companies or organizations, or government agencies such as the Bali Tourism Board, while competing with five star hotels and villas owned by big companies and hedge funds from Jakarta and overseas. May the Gods protect all genuine small Balinese enterprises too. Santi Santi Santi Om.
