Bakung Beach Resort

The location was the one good thing about our stay. The listing calls the room “beachfront,” but it isn’t beachfront, so don’t be misled. We arrived around midnight in the rain. A staff member gave us one umbrella and showed us to the rooms, but our group of eight had no one else to help with our luggage, and we had to walk through the rain. The rooms were very old. Although the bed had been made, there was hair on it and the sheets were dirty. The room smelled of mothballs, the furniture was poorly maintained, the shower didn’t get hot and the fixtures were rusty. The conditions were unacceptable, so we moved to another hotel the next morning. Breakfast was very basic.

My wife’s gold was stolen soon after we checked in at Bakung Beach Resort. I also felt uneasy at night, worried someone might come near the doors, because security seemed extremely poor. The nearby street felt unsafe to me, with suspicious people and thieves taking advantage of tourists. I wouldn’t recommend the area for families or couples. The place felt old, badly maintained and unhygienic. Our room was in terrible condition, and basic items like shower gel and a dental kit were missing. Breakfast was the worst I’ve seen at a hotel: old bread bought from outside was kept in an unhygienic way. It was a very bad experience, and I strongly advise others not to stay here.

The staff were friendly, but loose tiles in my room kept making cracking sounds. It was a little hard to find the place at first, though once you know where it is, it’s easy.

It’s an okay hotel with spacious rooms and a large pool. I’m not a strong swimmer, and I thought the pool’s two metre depth was too much for a hotel, so I was careful to stay near the sides.
