Inside Bali airport, getting to the gates was straightforward and the experience felt smooth and convenient. Security was fast and efficient once I was through the entrance. It’s well run, and better than many U.S. airports, if you know what to expect outside. The airport gets busy, and the signs aren’t always very good. Check Google or ask AI which entrance you need before arriving so you don’t waste time. Also watch out for people outside offering luggage carts. The carts are free, but they may try to charge you $5 USD just to hand one over. Walk past and get one yourself a few meters away near the entrance.

The terminals are easy to get around, both domestic and international, and there are loads of shops and places to eat. Bali's airport has also made entry much easier lately. I did the visa and tramits online, then got through passport control in no time on my last arrival. Nice work, Bali.

The departure side is the calmer part, with a decent range of cafés and duty-free shops to pass the time before boarding. On arrival, though, immigration can mean long waits when there aren't enough counters open. The eVisa is handy, but the e-gates may not accept passports without an e-chip, which can still cause delays. Visa on Arrival is an option, although that area can feel crowded and chaotic, with a market-like bustle and taxi services constantly approaching people. The airport is Bali's main hub for international and domestic arrivals and departures. Its design is striking and reflects the island's religious and cultural heritage. Services are functional overall, and better arrival management would make the experience smoother.

My check-in went quickly, and even though the auto gate failed both when I arrived and when I left, the manual counters moved fast too. The airport is a decent international connection for Bali. You can get your bags wrapped, though I thought the price was a bit high. Duty-free shopping seemed expensive to me, and the restaurants were pricey as well. Still, you don't come to Bali all the time, so I don't mind contributing to the local economy.
