The Kanjeng Hotel Kuta

Our room still wasn’t ready until after 3 pm, even though we’d said we needed to check out before 4. They had told us it would be ready before 2. The free upgrade didn’t feel like one, since the elevator was out of service and we had to climb the stairs to the third floor.

The security man was the only good part. He did his best to help, but there was no desk staff available. We’d booked and paid in advance for one double room and one twin room, but both rooms and bathrooms had dirty, stained walls. The bedrooms smelled of stale cigarettes, and the bed linen was dirty and stained too. The Wi-Fi apparently wasn’t working, which meant the TV didn’t work either. We couldn’t get phone service from either room. We’d only been there an hour after checking in late when we decided to leave. Highly not recommended.

The one thing going for this place is how close it is to the airport. The rooms had almost no furniture, just a bed and two old bedside tables. The shower barely ran, there was no spoon for making coffee or tea, the TV had no channels, and the Wi-Fi kept disconnecting. On arrival, the floors and walls looked dirty. The room floor was filthy too. Staff swept it again, then blamed the dirt on wind coming in through the open back door. Worst hotel I’ve stayed in in Bali.

The Aircon worked well and the Wi-Fi was decent. The bed was hard, but manageable. The staff seemed nice, though they spoke no English, so you’ll want a translator app. Dogs barked all night, but we think the noise came from outside the hotel, so that wasn’t the hotel’s fault. My husband and I arrived at 2 am after a late flight, and they didn’t seem to have our prepaid booking on file. It took nearly an hour to sort out, then they took us to a grungy room with no windows that looked nothing like the pictures online. I wasn’t expecting luxury at this price, but there was no toilet paper, the sheets were stained, the towels had huge holes, and everything in the room felt damp. It’s close to the airport, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
