Loccal Collection Hotel

Watching sunset from here is hypnotic. The hotel sits cut into a hillside, looking out over Labuan Badjo Harbour and the Komodo islands, with a breathtaking view. The staff are fantastic too.

Find another option. We stayed here twice. The first time, the superior rooms were beautiful, quiet and had a view, though the sheets were already a bit dirty. After a week on the boat, we came back before our flight and had a bad experience. We were in the lowest rooms, where the window looked onto a wall with the hotel's sewage system running through it. The sheets were dirty again, the floor was stained, and it wasn't quiet. The hot water ran out while I was bathing, and reception said I had to wait 30 minutes for it to come back. Breakfast was okay, the pool has a great view, and they offer airport shuttle service 24 hours a day. But the rooms are very uneven, and those sheets, oh God.

It's a great view, and that's about it. You only get fresh air in one of the very top rooms. Otherwise there's a wall right beside your window and no sunlight. Restaurant staff try hard, but get things mixed up. The hotel is far from everything in town.

The staff were helpful, kind and polite, and the food was good, especially breakfast. The hotel has a good view and is close to both the airport and harbour. I also got a complimentary drink with my room, which I enjoyed at the fifth-floor restaurant while watching the sunset. It gets very hot in the afternoon because the building is open and has nothing to block the sun. I'd recommend going before sunset, once the sun has started to dip. Don't forget sunscreen.
