Balian Green Lagoon

We came for a break from Canggu and had a great stay. The beach was an easy short walk away, and the staff were friendly. It was especially nice meeting the Bapak in charge, who was very kind. We'll come back next time we're here.

The bed was comfortable and the room clean, though the shower floor stones weren't pleasant to stand on. The lighting also felt dim and could do with brighter bulbs. There's no kettle in the room, but a shared kitchen has a stove where I could boil water for coffee. I didn't get to try the pool because the weather was gloomy and rainy.

Ketut was a lovely host. He shared papaya from the garden and offered a ride to our next place, and you can rent a scooter right there too. The night market and some great restaurants are close by. We stayed in a very cozy homestay, with cute little bungalows and an infinity pool surrounded by jungle. Falling asleep to the crickets and geckos was such a nice part of it.

We planned to stay a little while and ended up spending three nights at Balian beach because we didn't want to leave. The place is quiet and set back from the main road, with a village feel. Ketut is a lovely host and good company. He brought us garden fruit, coconuts to drink, warm peanuts, and tips on places to visit. Made and Ketut also showed us how to make some local delicacies in the kitchen. There isn't a restaurant, but there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance, along with shops and a night market. Mojo stood out for its healthy food and drinks and its lovely host. Our room was spacious and private, with a desk and chair, wardrobe, terrace with table and chairs, drying rack, and a roomy shower and toilet area. It was clean and excellent value. The small pool has a bar, sunbeds, and other seating, and the gardens give the rooms a nice sense of privacy. The beach is about five minutes down the track and popular with surfers. We only walked down once to look, and didn't swim. There's a lot to see nearby if you have wheels. The main road can feel a little daunting, as trucks travel back and forth from the port serving Java.
