Hyatt Place Makassar

We had three rooms for our family over the Eid holiday. Everything was thoroughly cleaned, the amenities were in good shape, and the staff were friendly and quick to respond. We could get to almost all our destinations in about 10 minutes. Breakfast didn’t have many choices, though it was still decent. Since we were driving an EV, it was easy to charge at the station across from the hotel. We’ll definitely stay at Hyatt Place again next time.

The breakfast had a lot to choose from, including fresh juices and dessert, and we enjoyed it. We also used the shallow pool, just 1.2m, which was perfect for my son to swim unsupervised. The gym was small but had good equipment. Our room was clean and comfortable, with enough amenities and strong shower pressure. The thick curtain kept out the morning sun, but the walls were thin. We could hear water running next door and noise from the street. From check-in to check-out the staff were welcoming and friendly. I only remember Yesi, the host at the restaurant. They gave us a refreshing welcome drink with ginger and lemongrass. We stayed one night for a staycation and had a wonderful time. We’d come back if we visit Makassar again.

The regular stay was good: the price was reasonable, the rooms were nice, the staff pleasant, and I really liked the breakfast. We also got a free late check-out. The hotel is probably one of the best choices in the city, and I’d stay there again and recommend it to friends. But my wife’s birthday dinner at the traditional night buffet was a huge letdown. It didn’t feel like the Hyatt service or quality I know. The tables weren’t set, the atmosphere felt like a cheap food court, and the terrible, unprofessional live music made conversation almost impossible. There was one warm dish, and its quality and taste were unacceptable. The outdoor barbecue was limited to cold, pre-cooked chicken wings and lamb that seemed to have been used for several occasions already. The fresh juices tasted like they were made from chemicals. I got a very bad stomach 12 hours later. The restaurant toilet door was left open the whole time, and none of the staff seemed to think to close it. I wouldn’t eat anything besides breakfast at the hotel. The excellent nearby restaurant "The Foreigen" is a better option.

I stayed in a suite, which was spacious, modern, and beautifully designed. The room was comfortable and clean, and the staff were warm and welcoming throughout our visit. Breakfast had lots of variety and was excellent. The pool and gym were well maintained and nice to use, whether for a quick workout or a relaxing swim. A great option in Makassar for work or leisure.
