Swiss-Belhotel Waterfront Makassar

Our room was spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable, with soft beds, clean linens, toiletries, TV, wifi, and air conditioning. The view of Makassar City was lovely too. Swiss Belhotel is conveniently located near Pantai Losari and Fort Rotterdam, with restaurants and other attractions close by. We stayed for three nights earlier this month as a Filipino married couple celebrating an early Valentine's Date, and booked through Agoda, which we usually use for accommodation. The comfort and cleanliness of the room were the best parts of our holiday. The service left us feeling unwelcome and frustrated. Staff at reception and elsewhere often cut calls or conversations short, whether we contacted reception, laundry, or the restaurant. We couldn't tell if that was because of the language barrier, cultural differences, or because we are Filipino. At check-in, the male receptionist struggled with English, so it took a while. We also had a problem with the room's power plugs. A technical staff member came to look but didn't explain anything and didn't return. It was late, we didn't know the city, and my husband had to go out and buy an adaptor so I could charge my phone. Nobody from the hotel offered help. We were given one key card and told to take a photo as a backup, but that didn't work. Eventually we got a spare card. On the second day, the room service staff member we saw on the 21st floor was friendly and smiling, but our room wasn't cleaned while we were out, even though we'd put up the "clean room" sign. Check-in was slow, though check-out went okay. Just one staff member, at a small table beside reception during check-out, treated us politely and professionally. The poor communication, slow replies, ignored request, and lack of help with simple problems made the stay difficult despite the good room and location. Service matters a lot in hospitality, and we don't feel this hotel met that standard. International guests or anyone who doesn't speak Indonesian may want to be cautious. If we return to Makassar, we'd likely choose somewhere with better service.

Putri was attentive and polite, and I really appreciated her service. My seaview room had a calm, refreshing feel, with a beautiful view. It was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the facilities met my expectations. The location also made it easy to get around Makassar. I had a very satisfying stay at Swiss-Belhotel Makassar and would recommend it for a relaxing visit, especially if you want a sea view.

We had a great family gathering at Swiss-Belinn Panakkukang. The staff were quick and super friendly, and they even set up karaoke, which made it more fun. The nasi liwet package was generous and full of flavor, especially the spiced chicken and bacem tofu and tempeh. Having it served on banana leaves made the meal feel special and authentic. Highly recommend it.

The location and the view are the only real positives for me. I expected more from this Swiss-Belhotel after staying at other properties in the chain. The place badly needs renovation: the carpets look dirty, fixtures and fittings are loose, and even the elevator has no air conditioning. Our room's AC also kept shutting off randomly during the night, so getting a good sleep was hard. The service wasn't very good, and breakfast was just meh. I don't blame the front-line staff, who seem to be doing what they can with what they have. Management really needs to invest in an overhaul. I'd only stay here if this exact location were my top priority, since there are plenty of other choices nearby.
