Griyo Sultan Agung near Station Malang Baru

I liked the green surroundings and how welcoming the owner and staff were. There's a water station with unlimited tea and coffee, plus a sink and toilet in the lobby and lounge. The homestay feels very much like home. It's also well placed near alun alun and the rail station. I'd come back on my next Malang trip 🩷

The bathroom drain smelled, which was the only real drawback I could think of. Still, the rooms are good value, even though they're a little small, and the hotel itself is quiet. It's about a five-minute walk from the train station and not far from other sights. The owner and staff were probably the friendliest people I've met on Java, and everyone was attentive. Free water, coffee, and tea are available all day, which is a nice touch.

8 May 2025, bed bugs. The staff were kind and check-in went smoothly, but room 203 wasn't very clean. There was hair on the floor, bed, and towels. The shower had hot water, though the basin only had cold water, and there was air conditioning. The worst part started when we went to sleep. While reading on my phone, I felt something crawling on me and the pillow. I first thought it was just a bug, but it happened again, so I checked the bed. They were bed bugs. I woke my friend, and there were bed bugs on his bed too. We found around ten, along with old blood stains on the sheets, which suggests this may not be new. Our night was over. It was around 1 a.m., and we didn't want to wake the owner. We also didn't trust that switching rooms would solve it, so after carefully checking our bags and clothes, we took an earlier night train and left as soon as possible. I hope the staff act immediately, properly disinfect the place, and post proof here. If you're staying soon, check the beds before using the room.

The room was clean and the service was good. It's a lovely, quiet spot near the train station, and the owner was really helpful with everything. Since it was a local holiday, I had lots of questions about train tickets, and she helped me a lot. She also gave good advice about food and sightseeing.
