The rooftop has a 360-degree view, the architecture is nice, and the atmosphere and people are lovely. The bed is comfortable, the hot shower works, the food is good, and there's a cafe bar. It’s close to the train station, ATMs, food, and just about anywhere. A few dorm basics are missing: you make your own bed, there's not much privacy, no sandals are provided, and the lockers don't have locks. Mosquitoes and noisy neighbors were the real nuisance. Still, I’ll stay here again.

I've never had cleaner sheets and towels. The place feels cozy, the mattress is comfortable, and there's a hot shower. Breakfast and beer were nice too. If you like sitting on a terrace, you'll enjoy it.

The bamboo rooms look good, but street noise comes right through, so light sleepers may struggle. The dorm beds are arranged oddly, and some have very little legroom. WiFi is free and open, though you need to authenticate after connecting. I was given the password, but the login kept failing and kicked me off after five minutes without accepting it again. Everything else was okay.

Bring earplugs and mosquito repellent. The place has great views over Malang and is a backpacker hostel with a few private bungalows. The people you meet are awesome, and tours arranged through Helios hotel, where the hostel is located, are well organized and cover a lot. For four people, the two-night Mt Bromo and Ijen trip costs 90 euros and includes quite a lot, so it's good value even on a budget. A distinctive stay if that's what you're after.
