Pondok Backpacker City Square

The hostel itself is pretty decent for the price, but the front door is locked at night and guests aren’t properly told about it. We nearly missed our 5am tour, though luckily the driver waited. A locked entrance could also be dangerous during a medical emergency or fire. One staff member sleeps in the building, but no one explained any of this when we arrived. If you have an early tour, you can ask them to open the doors. I’d suggest both texting the number and telling the staff.

Everything smelled fresh, from the blankets and mattresses to the clean room. The caretaker was friendly, and the beds for girls and boys are separate.

The dorm is a bit cramped with bunk beds, and luggage has to go in a locker outside. They don’t provide towels, so bring your own. Still, the shower room and bedroom were clean, with cool AC, and the staff were great. Kopitiam is right next door. It’s a top location in Malang, just a short walk from Kayutangan and Alun2.

The owner was such a humble person, thank you, Pak 😁. The dormitory was really clean and comfortable, and the stay felt like a five-star experience despite costing only IDR 65K. I’d definitely come back on a future trip to the Malang area.
