Hotel Trio Indah 2 Malang

The room could use a fresh coat of paint and felt quite old, but the bed was comfortable. I stayed in the building behind the main one, and it was quiet. The hotel was clean. The window opened onto an indoor hallway, so there was almost no daylight.

Breakfast was simple, and there are plenty of good places for food or a massage close by. The location is good, but the rooms felt cramped, humid, and pretty dirty. The windows face the inside of the building, so there wasn't any fresh air.

Breakfast is mostly Indonesian food, like rice, noodles, and fried chicken, with some fruit and a little bread. Don't expect a Western-style buffet. Our room was alright, with a very comfortable bed, though the lighting was mediocre. The staff were lovely and always tried their best, even though not everyone spoke English well. They also let us leave our bags free for two days while we went elsewhere.

The location is good, and the staff were friendly, but this is a cheap three-star hotel and the rooms show their age. Ours was relatively clean but a little neglected. The old AC only partly worked, the bathroom needs an update and smelled a bit musty, and the clogged shower heads had weak pressure. The water kept swinging between scalding and cool during a shower without us touching the tap. The towels looked clean in their plastic wrap, but the standard beds were just ordinary. There are no elevators, only stairs, and the key cards worked about half the time, with some skill needed to open the doors. In the evening our toilet stopped working. The young staff on duty didn't seem experienced and couldn't fix it or call an emergency plumber, which wasn't their fault. They said the hotel was full when I asked to move rooms, though I could see some rooms were empty. I suggested moving us until the next day's guests arrived after midday, so a plumber could come in the early morning, but they said no. After I insisted on either another room or a different hotel, they moved us to a so-called superior room about 20 minutes later. It was a little bigger, but had the same problems. Don't expect much. The location is handy for nearby places.
