Leaving was hard because I felt so at home and looked after the whole time. The room was wonderful, and the staff were warm and attentive, seeming to know what we needed before we asked. Every meal came with several delicious dishes, giving us the chance to try lots of local food alongside international favorites. Reiko, Agnes, and everyone at Bunaken Cha Cha, you’ll stay in my heart!

The reef right outside the accommodation was breathtaking, and the peaceful atmosphere made it easy to unwind. Our room was clean and comfortable, too. Agnes’s cooking was a standout. Over our three days here, the meals were the best we had in three weeks of traveling through Indonesia, and every one was a treat. The owner was warm and welcoming, and shared so many stories about diving that our stay was both fun and educational. We’d love to visit again. It was unforgettable.

We spent a fabulous week at Cha Cha as a family of five, two people in their 50s and three adult children. We all loved the relaxed feel. It’s upscale without being fussy, high quality without losing its laid-back vibe, and intimate without feeling overbearing. We felt cared for from the moment we arrived. It was lovely getting to know everyone: Reiko, the owner, Agnes, the manager and chef, Moole, who handles all things boat, Luna, Agnes’s sweet, funny, energetic pup, and the rest of the support team. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, with especially beautiful views at sunrise. We’re snorkelers, not divers, and the resort suited us perfectly. We explored the house reef, took three trips to other amazing reefs, spent time with dolphins, and watched the sunset after one late afternoon snorkeling outing. Agnes planned and prepared the food, and we loved trying Indonesian specialties that were new to us along with other cuisines. For me, a real vacation means not having to think about where or when the next meal is. Cha Cha took care of all of that, so I could focus on the wonderful surroundings and time with my family.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and falling asleep to the sound of waves was lovely. I can’t remember my last holiday that good. After a pretty enjoyable week in Bali, staying at Bunaken Cha Cha was on another level, and I really didn’t want to leave. Reiko, Agnes, Cindy, Mandy, Mul, and the rest of the staff were so friendly. The resort works for divers and snorkelers, but also for people who don’t do either. I walked to the village most days, a 45-minute trip each way, partly to work off the amazing food from Agnes and her team. They’ve mastered all kinds of cooking, from Italian and Mexican to Indonesian and French. I also enjoy boats, so with help from the resort guys I hired a local boatman and spent three memorable days exploring nearby islands. If you want to see Indonesia at its best, away from crowds of beer-swilling tourists, give this little archipelago a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Getting to the resort was smooth. The resort team organized everything, from the short drive from Manado airport to the dock to the boat ride into the National Park. Bunaken 18 is a small, cozy resort in a fantastic spot in the middle of Bunaken Natural Park. It makes a great base for diving and snorkeling, or simply relaxing in the surroundings. The house reef itself is very good for snorkeling. We were surprised by how good the food was. Lunch and dinner brought something new each day, and the staff and owners were friendly. Strongly recommended, with excellent value for the price.
