Lun Hotel Manado

We aren't fussy or especially sensitive about accommodation, but after seeing three rooms in the same condition, we couldn't fault this Hotel. The first room had dirty sheets with countless stains and black streaks, and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned, including brown marks on the toilet seat and a dirty mirror. We asked to change rooms, but the next bed had the same endless stains. They then showed us two more rooms, and those were just as unacceptable. There were also insects that scattered as soon as we came in, not the usual bugs you expect in a warm country. This was a bitter disappointment.

After we complained, they showed us three more rooms, each worse than the last. There were bugs running around and specks everywhere, especially on the bed. The place was so dirty it looked 50 years old. I've never stayed in such a bad hotel.

The staff were polite and professional, and helped me communicate with people in Indonesian. Kopi Haranpanku, an excellent coffeeshop, is a three-minute walk away, though it's closed Sundays. My room could get stuffy, so I'd leave the door open a little before bed. They provided liquid shampoo and towels, but fresh towels weren't available in the morning, so I had to wait until after 2:00 pm. Also, cleaning staff knocked at different times each morning, and there was no “Do Not Disturb” sign. (December 2024)

The staff are kind and friendly, though the place could be cleaner.
