Maratua Guesthouse

We left already thinking about when we could come back. The food was incredible, some of the best we’ve had on our travels, and Jun and Ana were such warm, thoughtful hosts who clearly care about what they do. From the bungalows and restaurant we could see fish, turtles, and blacktip reef sharks, and the snorkeling was amazing, with stunning reefs and so much marine life. The resort sits in a peaceful, breathtaking, untouched setting. Our accommodation was perfect, and falling asleep to the gentle sound of the water felt like a real escape. Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for more.

The house reef was a snorkeling blast. We saw everything right on our doorstep, from barracudas and leopard sharks to eagle rays. Jun and Ana made it such a pleasure to be there. The huts are simply and practically furnished, but completely sufficient for a relaxing break. The lounge area is a nice spot to sit and chat, and the location makes it easy to explore the island. On a scooter, you can get around pretty quickly. We really enjoyed our time at Maratua guesthouse and will definitely come back. Thank you for everything 💕

We spent four days at Maratua Guesthouse and had an amazing time. Our sea-view bungalow made the stay feel extra special, and the team was friendly and helpful throughout. The place was well equipped and very clean, with towels, air conditioning, and drinking water provided. There was no mobile data or Wi-Fi in the room, but the restaurant Wi-Fi worked very well, and we were usually out exploring anyway. The restaurant was a lovely place to eat and unwind, with an exceptional sea view. If you’re lucky, you might spot turtles, baby sharks, or even a stingray while having dinner. The sunsets were breathtaking too. The food was a real highlight. There was mostly Indonesian cooking, including lots of chicken dishes, fresh fish of the day, and plenty of vegetarian choices, as well as a few European options. The spaghetti was delicious. Breakfast had pancakes, omelets, fried rice, and more, with fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and tea included. We also booked the full-day snorkeling trip and highly recommend it. Just the two of us set off at 9:00 AM for Sangalaki Island and its turtle conservation station. We stopped at two snorkeling spots and had lunch before continuing to Kakaban Island and the famous jellyfish lake. We finished with snorkeling near Maratua Island, which was a highlight. Our boat driver was very friendly, and we could choose where to go and how long to stay at each stop. We’d definitely return and highly recommend the guesthouse to anyone visiting Maratua Island.

The hosts, June and Anna, really made our stay special. They were so kind and welcoming, cooked delicious breakfasts and dinners that were all included, and helped us arrange snorkeling trips and other things to do around the island. When I celebrated my 30th birthday there, they surprised me with a huge cake. Such a lovely gesture! You can rent motorbikes right at the guesthouse, which made exploring easy. The huts were clean and beautiful, and there’s a lovely tropical beach out front. The best snorkeling spots are accessible directly from the property. We even ate breakfast on the terrace over the ocean while watching dolphins and sea turtles. An unforgettable experience. Maratua Guesthouse is truly the best place to stay, 10/10!
